<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">The long awaited Boston Harbor maintenance dredging project is about to get



<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company dredging equipment is expected to start

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">arriving over the weekend and begin work as early as the beginning of next week


<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">They will start with removing approximately 1 Million Cubic Yards of

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">material from the designated Confined Aquatic Disposal area (CAD Cell) with

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Clamshell Bucket Dredge 54. This area is just North of Mystic Pier One and

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">South to Pier 11, (see attached chartlet). The digging of the CAD cell is

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">expected to take approximately 90 days working 24x7. The material from the

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">CAD Cell will be hauled by scows and be deposited at the Massachusetts Bay

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Disposal Site. 


<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Upon completion of the CAD Cell, they will proceed with the scheduled

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">maintenance dredging of approximately 0.8 Million cubic yards of material

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">from the main ship channel.  This work expected to be completed by Dec 15th.


<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">With this being a 24x7 operation and working in a narrow part of the channel

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">during the digging of the CAD Cell, they will probably have to move out of

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">the way to allow larger commercial vessels to pass by. As we did with the

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">previous blasting in Boston Harbor and during the Chelsea Street Bridge

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">replacement project we think it would be beneficial to have a discussion on

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">best practices on moving forward with coordinating shipping traffic, thus

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">hopefully limiting the movements of the dredge equipment. The large vessels

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">are easy to track because they require pilots, so we know when they are

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">arriving, however the tug and barges, don't require pilots so they can just

<span-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">show up at anytime, so this is why it is important to involve the fuel
